History of college origin

History of the educational establishment « Gomel State Polytechnic College» began in far post-war 1946. Taking into account the keen necessity of   forest industry development, the Council of Ministers in BSSR decided to open Gomel Forestry Technical School.  Beginning of the young educational establishment was difficult.  

According to the decision of the Council of Ministers in BSSR the Gomel Forestry Technical School was formed on the 24th of May in 1946.

It was reorganized as the Mechanical Woodworking Technical School in 1958.

According to the order № 383 of the Ministry of higher, secondary special and professional education it was renamed as Gomel State Polytechnic School.

It was reorganized as the educational establishment “Gomel State Polytechnic College” on the 17th of September in 2007.

Gomel  is the second largest city in the republic today. It is a centre of social and political contacts of Belarus, Russia and the Ukraine. It has developed industry, science and culture.

High attention is paid to the preparation of specialists in different fields of science, culture and manufacture in our city. In seven higher educational establishment about 35 thousand students are taught and 5 thousand of them receive diplomas of young specialists annually.  

In its structure the college has two educational buildings, workshops for practice, 34 classrooms, 12 educational laboratories, 6 computer classrooms, an educational computer center, 2 gyms, a library, an assembly hall, the first aid station, a hostel for 370 people, that address is Gomel,  Kiseleva Street, house 6 (near the railway station).

As for 01.01.2016  891 students study in the college, including 96 (11%) part time students .  321 (36%) students out of 891 students study on a fee basis.

The teaching staff comprises 60 people, including 22 people (37 %) with the highest category, 22 people (37 %) with the first category,9 people (15 %) with the second category, 7 people (11 %) without a category. 

The plan of students admission is carried out. In 2007 it was performed in  105,3 %, in 2008 - 104,5 %, in 2009 - 105,5 %, in 2010 – 102,5 %, in 2011- 100%, in 2012 – 90%, in 2013 – 98%in 2014 - 96%

Percentage of  distribution and  employment of the college graduates in the dynamics was: 2006 - 82%, 2007 - 95%, 2008 - 98%, 2009 - 94%, 2010  - 94,4%, 2011  - 98%, 2012 - 96,3%.

We have employment contracts for graduates of the college till 2015.

In many specialities contracts are made with higher educational establishments for preparation of college graduates on the basis of the shortened programme.

Quantity dynamics of the college graduates that entered universities  part-time and full-time  courses is: 2006 - 38%, 2007 - 41%, 2008 - 72%, 2009 - 65%, 2010 г. - 61%, 2011 г. - 64%, 2012 г. - 53%, 2013 - 35%.

 Considerable work of educational process computerization was done. The local computer network was created, all departments and cycle commissions were computerized. 144 computers are used in the educational process nowadays.

The college has own internet sight  www.gomel.belstu.by.   Distant teaching is used at part-time courses. Computer testing in special and professional subjects was introduced.

The educational establishment prepared specialists for Vietnam, Afghanistan, Algeria, Guinea, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Laos and Mongolia.

The establishment has an opportunity to teach foreign citizens now. Acceptance of foreign citizens for studying (except those citizens, specified in paragraph 3 of the present rules) is accomplished on the basis of international contracts of the Republic of Belarus. Acceptance is realized by the college, coordinated with the Ministry of Education. Admittance is accomplished on payment terms of foreign citizens, coming to the Republic of Belarus legally and having the necessary level of previous education.  Acceptance is realized on the basis of contracts, made with foreign citizens or their representatives. Contracts are made on the terms established by legislation.  Contracts provide payment responsibility of the parts in case of sending a foreign citizen beyond the borders of the Republic of Belarus.

Foreign citizens are accepted with the medical certificate, allowing to study in the climatic conditions of the Republic of Belarus. The medical certificate must be given out by the official medical organization of the country, from which the candidate comes for studying. Foreign citizens are accepted to the college only after medical examination in the local medical organizations, which are determined by the college. Medical examination must prove absence of medical contradictions to studying in the Republic of Belarus.
